Criteria for Selecting Proposals

For Fellowships and Summer Stipends: The significance of the contribution to knowledge in the specific field and to the humanities generally; the quality or promise of quality of the applicant's work; the quality of the conception, definition, organization, and description of the proposed project; and the likelihood that the applicant will complete the project. Faculty Research Awards: projects will be selected for funding on the basis of the intellectual significance of the project, including its potential contribution to research and teaching in the humanities both at the applicant's home institution and more broadly; the quality or the promise of quality of the applicant's work as a scholar, teacher, and interpreter of the humanities; the conception, definition, organization and description of the proposed project, including, in the case of group projects; the quality of the contributions to be made by each participant and arrangements for coordinating the project as a whole; the feasibility of the work plan; and likelihood of achieving the project's stated goals; and the plans for dissemination of the project's outcome including publications, professional and public presentations, and teaching.
