OBJECTIVES
The Secretary of HHS, acting through the Administrator of the Health Resources and Services Administration, enters into an agreement with schools of nursing and makes an award for the establishment and operation of a NFLP student loan fund to increase the number of qualified nursing faculty. Institutions must use NFLP loan funds to provide loans to students enrolled in eligible advanced degree nursing programs (master's or doctoral) with an education component(s) that will prepare them to teach. Loan recipients must agree to complete the education program, and following graduation, may cancel up to 85% of the NFLP loan while serving as full-time nurse faculty at a school of nursing. Loan recipients who complete the nursing education program may cancel up to 85% of the loan in exchange for service as full-time nurse faculty in a school of nursing.
